The number of job advertisements continues to increase
The number of job offers continues to increase, according to a study. This shows that companies are “eager” to hire new employees.
In the week to May 1, 1.8 million vacancies were advertised, around 15% more than the same period last month, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) found. ). The REC said there were notable increases in job openings for accountants, finance managers and directors.
The REC said the number of new jobs has stabilized since the start of the year, adding that employers were struggling to attract staff. REC chief executive Neil Carberry said: “Data continues to show employers across the UK are eager to bring new people into their businesses.
“The number of new job vacancies has remained relatively stable over the past few weeks, despite concerns about rising inflation.” John Gray, of research firm Emsi Burning Glass, who contributed to the study, added: “The slowdown in new assignments suggests that employers are more cautious than they were at the start of the year, which may be a reflection of economic recovery uncertainty.
“The fact that the number of active positions continues to grow suggests that they are still keeping positions open, but struggling to fill them, reflecting the very tight job market we have seen emerging in the post- Covid end of 2021.”
