It’s Not Too Late To Sign Up For These Awesome NJ Day Camps

Looking for a place where your kids can run around all day while you’re at work or doing chores? Why not a summer camp? While summer camps may have taken a slight hiatus in recent years, they seem to be back and better than ever this summer.
Some of these camps have even started already but can take campers in mid-summer or even make an exception. Not sure which campsite to choose? Here are some of the best in New Jersey.
Camp River Bend
Located in Warren, Camp River Bend has been around since 1962. Activities vary from swimming, outdoor sports, rock climbing, pedal carts and river activities. If you have kids who aren’t sure what their favorite summer activities are, this place will help them figure it out. They also have a day trip program where kids can choose to go on day trips and go on adventures nearby.
Harbor Hills Day Camp
Harbor Hills sits on huge grounds in Mendham and is unique from other camps due to its international staff. Many counselors come from the UK or Australia and come to America for the summer to experience American culture. The camp is very athletic, so if your child is looking to run around all day, this is the perfect place. There’s also horseback riding, which few other camps offer.
Willow Lake Day Camp
Lake activities are endless at Willow Lake, located in Hopatcong. Between water sports, zip lines and rope rides, this camp is a dream come true for adventurous kids. They also have a day trip program where campers can go to sports games, water parks and other summer locations.
Spring Lake Day Camp
Spring Lake in Ringwood has won many awards since it opened in 1989. Among the normal camp activities, they also have leadership programs for children over grade 8 who are interested in counseling positions but are still campers at heart.
Jeff Lake Day Camp
In Sussex County lives Jeff Lake Day Camp, where several sessions are offered to campers for the summer. Jeff Lake has been in operation for over 60 years and offers a wide variety of programs depending on what your child wants to do during the summer. The camp is best known for its huge lake where campers can take part in several activities that they could not try elsewhere.

One of the top 50 candy stores in the United States is right here in Jersey
I decided to take a trip there for myself to see what they had to offer. Okay, when you walk in you feel like Charlie about to take over the chocolate factory. Black River Candy Shoppe is a cute little candy shop with hundreds of different types of candies.
They have old school childhood candy as well as an amazing selection of new candy varieties. The candies are displayed in old whiskey casks, and many of their candies are sold in bulk by the pound. It is located in Chester city center just off Main Street. Check out the photos from my recent visit:
These are the best hiking spots in New Jersey
A trip to New Jersey doesn’t have to be just the beach. Our state has incredible trails, waterfalls and lakes to enjoy.
From the Pine Barrens to the Appalachian Trail to New Jersey’s hidden gems, you have plenty of options for a great hike. Hiking is a great way to spend time outdoors and enjoy nature, plus it’s a great workout.
If you descend and meet an uphill hiker, pull to the side and give the uphill hiker some space. An uphill hiker has the right of way unless they stop to catch their breath.
Always stay on the trail, you may see side paths, unless marked as an official trail, avoid them. Going off the trail, you risk damaging the ecosystems around the trail, the plants and wildlife that live there.
You also don’t want to disturb any wildlife you encounter, just keep your distance from wildlife and continue hiking.
Cyclists must yield to hikers and horses. Hikers should also give in to horses, but I don’t know how many horses you’ll encounter on New Jersey trails.
If you plan to bring your dog on your hike, they must be on a leash and be sure to clean up all pet waste.
Finally, pay attention to the weather, if the trail is too muddy, it’s probably best to save your hike for another day.
