Dove Cameron publicly comes out as gay
“I have been alluding to my sexuality for years while being afraid to explain it to everyone,” she continued. “I did a lyrical video last year for ‘We Belong’. There were touching line drawings of people falling in love… It was all a man and a woman kissing and it was a strange moment for me. “
“I was at the end of a really big chapter in my life and I had a hard time focusing on myself, so when the relationship ended I found it hard to take back my power and focus on where I was, ”Cameron explained.
Previously, she had taken to Instagram Live and told her fans that she was queer and said she wanted to represent herself as authentic through her music. She noted that “It wasn’t a big announcement. It was never something I really got into. It was like here I am and here I always have been.”
“It was like something I could never talk about. I feel like the industry has changed a lot when it comes to the ability for people with platforms to be human and not be separated. I was really nervous to go out and one day I let it go because I was behaving like someone who was absent and realized that I was not. When you are who you are, you assume people see it and then you realize: ‘No, I have to go out or people won’t’ I won’t know ‘, ”she concludes.
