Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk rematch could be pushed back to July
UK venue remains one of options for Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk rematch
Negotiations for Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk continue. A site in the UK is still one of the options for the fight venue, with Saudi Arabia also a potential destination. It had been targeted for the end of June but could be pushed back to July.
“We are in final negotiations with a few venues for late June or early mid-July,” Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said. “I think within two weeks we will have some news on where it will be. One option is in the UK. The difference is that we don’t really need proper negotiations with a venue in the UK. United, we can just book it.
Sky Sports has been the broadcaster of Joshua’s professional career and is expected to widely televise his rematch with Usyk in the UK on pay-per-view.
But Hearn noted, “DAZN is definitely in the mix. It also depends on the agreement, as some agreements vary in terms of rights. So you could do a fight where the site would control certain rights for a fight etc. Or it could be kept. Obviously we’ve had a great relationship with Sky and AJ and those negotiations are ongoing right now. DAZN would obviously like to bring Anthony Joshua to the platform, as would other broadcasters as well. But I think it’s just a matter of confirming the deal for AJ’s fight with Usyk and then assuring the broadcaster to follow.
